Knowledge Management
A team knowledge base that keeps your company's information organized, searchable, and always up to date. AI-powered search finds answers instantly so your team stops asking the same questions.
What is Knowledge Management?
Knowledge Management is a team wiki with AI-powered search that keeps your company's information organized, findable, and up to date. Instead of answers being scattered across Google Docs, Slack messages, and one person's head, everything lives in one searchable place. AI finds answers across all your docs instantly, auto-categorizes new content, detects when documentation goes stale, and builds onboarding paths for new hires. Built for operator founders running small teams where the founder is currently the answer to every question — and needs to stop being the bottleneck.
Key Features
Who it's for
- Operator founders who are the answer to every 'how do we do X?' question on the team
- Small teams with documentation scattered across Google Docs, Notion, Slack, and email
- Founders hiring their first few employees who need onboarding to not depend on oral tradition
- Teams that tried Notion or Confluence and found them too complex for a 5-person company
Example workflows
Set up your team knowledge base
- 1Import existing docs from Google Docs, Notion, or Confluence.
- 2Let Starch auto-categorize the imported content by topic.
- 3Review the categories and merge or rename any that don't match your mental model.
- 4Create an onboarding path by ordering the docs a new hire should read first.
- 5Share the knowledge base URL with your team and let AI search handle the rest.
Monthly documentation health check
- 1Open the stale content report showing docs that haven't been updated in 6+ months.
- 2For each, decide: update it, archive it, or confirm it's still accurate and reset the freshness clock.
- 3Check the most-searched queries to see if any common questions don't have a matching doc yet.
- 4Write a new doc for any gap you find — Starch auto-categorizes and indexes it immediately.
What you can ask
"Find our onboarding checklist for new engineers"
"Which documents haven't been updated in over 6 months?"
"What's our process for handling customer refunds?"
"Show me all docs tagged as engineering runbooks"
"Create a new knowledge base article from these meeting notes"
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from Notion?
Notion is a general-purpose workspace — powerful but complex, and search is mediocre. Knowledge Management is purpose-built for the 'where do I find the answer?' problem: AI-powered search that actually finds things, automatic staleness detection, and onboarding paths. If your Notion workspace is a graveyard of docs no one can find, this is the fix.
Does the AI search actually work?
Yes. It understands natural language queries ('what's our refund process?' or 'how do I set up a new vendor?') and returns the specific section of the doc that answers your question — not just a list of documents that might contain the answer. It's closer to asking a person than using a search bar.
How does stale content detection work?
Starch tracks when each document was last updated and flags anything older than a threshold you set (default: 6 months). It also flags docs that reference other docs that have changed — so cascading staleness gets caught too.
Can I import from Notion, Google Docs, or Confluence?
Yes. Import from Notion (export and upload), Google Docs (direct connection), or Confluence (export). The import preserves structure and formatting so you don't have to rebuild from scratch.
What are onboarding paths?
A curated sequence of docs that a new hire should read in order — like a self-guided onboarding curriculum. You build it once, and every new team member follows the same path instead of getting a random Slack message with 15 links.
Is it secure?
Yes. All content is private to your team by default. You control who can view, edit, and manage each section. No content is shared externally unless you explicitly create a public link.
